In the early 1830's the McLaughlin family came to the U.S. from Ireland, settling first in Canada before moving to Lebanon township, on the outskirts of New London, around 1850.   They built the cabin shortly after their arrival.

In 1993, Larry Gitter offered the log cabin to the New London Heritage Historical Society provided they would remove it from his farm.  The cabin was dismantled and transported to the Village and was rebuilt at the edge of the Village's wooded area, to give the appearance of how it originally looked in the 1850's.
