Level A |
This class is offered to give you and your child
guided time in the pool without the frenzy of the open, public and
family swim atmosphere. The instructor will introduce you to
the pool, the safest ways to enter a pool with a child, and give
you an idea of the skills that are taught in the lower levels of
the Learn-to-Swim program. Some of these skills include
floats, glides, arm actions and breath control. This class
is recommended for children ages 6 months to 2 years. The
child will be moved to Level B when the instructor feels the child
is ready or his or her age allows you to do so. |
|
Level B |
Level B is more of a structured class setting with
a parent optional. It is more designed for the instructor to
be more of a teacher than a facilitator like in the previous
level. We recommend this class for ages 3 to 4 years
old. The skills focused on in this level are primary water
skills that provide the child with a more comfortable attitude in
the water. These skills include safe entry and exit skills,
submerging in a rhythmic pattern, exploring buoyancy, combined
strokes on back and front, changing body position in the water,
and learning about lifejackets. This level is to simply get
the child prepared to swim and move comfortably in the water. |
|
These two classes have age suggestions
for the safety and well-being of your child, please respect these
age groups when registering for classes regardless of skill level. |
|
|
| Level 1 |
Introduction to Water Skills |
|
This level is dedicated to, like its
name states, the introduction to water skills. Your
child will learn all the basic skills they will need to know to
begin their lifetime of swimming. Some of these skills
include: With assistance; front float, back float, arm
actions for the front and back, alternating leg action
simultaneous arm action, and various water safety rules. |
|
|
| Level 2 |
Fundamental Aquatic Skills |
|
This level really starts to develop the
child as a swimmer. They will become more confident with the
feet finally lifting off the ground and become a different form of
motion for them with 3 different kicks. Glides and arm
actions become more independent also. To pass this class
your child will need to be completely comfortable swimming
throughout the water by his/herself. |
|
|
| Level 3 |
Stroke Development |
|
Level three introduces the deep water
to your child. After they have become comfortable with their
ability to swim a distance, this level introduces the head first
entry into the deep water. They will be defining the stroke skills for the Front Crawl, Butterfly, and Back Crawl and learn a
variety of other beginning glides, floats and safety rules. |
|
|
| Level 4 |
Stoke Development |
|
Once your child has developed the
basics of swimming, level four focuses on the mechanics of the
strokes. Distance is also introduced with endurance to
prepare the child for the upper levels that require stamina
swimming. The instructor will take time to develop the
children's confidence in the deep water. Safety skills are
more advanced to prepare the child for lifesaving skills such as
Safe Boating, Chocking Victim and Safe Diving. Two new dives
are also introduced. |
|
|
| Level 5 |
Stroke Refinement |
|
Stroke refinement defines your child's
stroke and challenges them with many endurances swims, treading
activities, and dives. There are also some skills that
introduce the influence of swim team into the lesson including
dives and turns Safety skills include the introduction to
rescue breathing. |
|
|
| Level 6 |
Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of
Diving, Lifeguard Readiness, and Fitness Swimmer |
|
Level six is broken up into four
components that include the above listed names. All include
the performance development of the front crawl, back crawl,
breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and
butterfly. Within each component there are special
fundamentals taught. In Personal Water Safety, Survival
Floats, rescue skills and safety rules are introduced. In
Fundamentals of Diving, dives are taught and perfected. In
Lifeguard Readiness you child will learn surface dives, emergency
help skills and an assortment of professional saves used by
American Red Cross trained lifeguards. Fitness Swimmer
explains the use of pace clocks, instructs your child on correct
turns and starts, and prepare your child for endurance swimming. |
