VE Exhibit Label 1:
Charles F. Reuter opened a cigar factory and shop in New London in 1885 at the age of 25. His brother Fred started working there when he was 15 and learned the cigar making trade. Around 1888, Charles moved his business to a building on the corner of North Water Street and St. John's Place. Charles sold the building to David Jennings in 1899. He continued to make and sell cigars for many years. He passed away in 1930. The Stein brothers built the building in the photograph in 1874. The building was torn down in 1995.
