Description:
Siderite nodule containing two plant specimens. The larger being Macroneuropteris scheuchzeri. The smaller lacks veination for adequate identification.

Quite common throughout the Carboniferous, this roughly 310 million year old leaf belongs to a medium sized seed bearing tree. This particular specimen was collected at the Mazon Creek locality in Illinois. A smaller plant was fossilized with the larger leaf. It is not as easily identifiable as the veins in the leaf were not preserved.
