Matanzas Side Notched points are part of the Matanzas Cluster. These types of points are found primarily in the mid Mississippi River Valley, the Illinois River Valley, mid to lower Ohio River Valley, and the lower Missouri River Valley. The name was given to these types of points in 1966 when they were first found in West Matanzas in Fulton County, Illinois.
