Identifying features include, Side Notched (Tang Shape), Triangular (Blade Shape), Subconcave (Base Shape). Artifact exhibits very fine pressure flaking along both sides of the blade, as well as alternate beveled edges.

Howard Winters, a distinguished anthropologist who did extensive research in Illinois, identified this type of point during the survey of the Wabash Valley in Illinois. He named it for Thebes, Illinois in 1963. A number of variations of this style of point exist.
