These seeds come from a seed-bearing plant of an unknown age. However, these seeds have similar form and function to modern day seeds. They had large casings that were pivotal to the survival of the seed inside. These hard outer shells were there to provide nourishment, protection from unfavorable environments, and to provide safe transport to a new location, which was done when an organism consumed the seed and excreted the remains.
