One gastropod specimen removed from matrix. Body whorl, spire and suture intact, but umbilicus has been fractured.

This sea snail has an excellently preserved shell, with the original material being preserved. It is extremely fragile but it provides a glimpse into the past, allowing scientists to see that many organisms have not changed much from past to present. Based on form and function of current snails that look the same, this knowledge can be applied to the past and allow for imagining and hypothesizing what the world was like during this time.
