VE Exhibit Label 1:
This specimen is another example of a fossil horn coral. However, this particular specimen has experienced a different type of fossilization process. The crystallization that is occuring within the center of the horn coral will be a result of minerals precipitating out of water and crystallizing within the center of the coral as the coral was buried. The specimen has also experienced some rounding of its sides due to erosion, usually associated with exposure to water currents, such as waves from a beach.
Fossilization:
Recrystallization
