VE Exhibit Label 1:
These sea snail shells have been replaced with a different material from the original aragonite. These shells are well preserved and provide a great deal of detail for helping to identify the organisms. Each species, as previously discussed, has a unique shape and size, but they also have unique patterns on their spirals. A closer look at these shells, reveal suture lines that wrap around the spirals. These lines represent the growth rate of the snail as it added more shell material as they grew.
